چکیده

Building on the observation that finger orientation is an inherent part of human's interaction in the real world, exploiting finger orientation for multitouch tabletop interaction would facilitate more natural interaction techniques. We motivate this by means of examples where the finger orientation improves or enriches interaction. Afterwards, we present a simple and fast approach to detect the finger orientation reliably for multi-touch tabletop interaction. The steps involved are computationally cheap and therefore suit the needs of tracking software operating under time-critical conditions. We show that the presented approach enables the detection of finger orientation also for fingers that touch the tabletop surface only slightly. Further, recognition rates on real data gained from the camera within a multi-touch tabletop are presented in order to give a measure for the precision and reliability of the presented

Understanding Hand Degrees of Freedom and Natural Gestures for 3D Interaction on Tabletop

Interactively creating and editing 3D content requires the manipulation of many degrees of freedom (DoF). For instance, docking a virtual object involves 6 DoF (position and orientation). Multi-touch surfaces are good candidates as input devices for those interactions: they provide a direct manipulation where each finger contact on the table controls 2 DoF. This leads to a theoretical upper bou...

DigiTable particularly investigates remote configurations. Fusing tactile information and computer vision tracking Up to now, all the proposed multi-touch devices do not enable a totally fluid and natural interaction. For instance, Diamond Touch does not provide the location of the touching fingers of a single user within the global contact bounding box encompassing all the user contact points....

Exploring and Evaluating the Combined Multi-Touch and In-the-Air Tabletop Interaction Space

Recently presented tabletop setups that combine multi-touch and in-the-air input mechanisms offer new interaction possibilities above and around the surface. This paper introduces a comprehensive collection of gestural interaction metaphors based on these user input mechanisms in combination with an in-depth evaluation regarding usability and design aspects. The introduced gestures can be used ...

Design of Unimanual Multi-Finger Pie Menu Interaction

Context menus, most commonly the right click menu, are a traditional method of interaction when using a keyboard and mouse. Context menus make a subset of commands in the application quickly available to the user. However, on tabletop touchscreen computers, context menus have all but disappeared. In this paper, we investigate how to design context menus for efficient unimanual multi-touch use. ...
